What is IRC ?
The abbreviation IRC stands for Internet Relay
Chat..
IRC is basically a system for real-time communication,
yes, that means you type in something, and people see it within a few seconds.
It's a nice means to talk to people in distant place in large groups.
Which didn't make any sense for me the 1st time i read it.
IRC is nothing more than ppl sitting behind their puter and typing lines that others can read and reply to, if they want.
Its not limited to borders, everybody with a puter and Internet access can use it.
IRC gained international fame during the late Persian Gulf War, when updates from around the world came across the wire, and most people on IRC gathered on a single channel to hear these reports.
Wot it does take is a lot of courage, for me it was like entering a room which a lot of ppl on a birthday party, not knowing any one of them, and gees ….was i happy that i could lit a cigarette..!

Why is IRC so much fun ?
U can say: IRC is just a chatbox and ur right, no one will ever deny that..
I thought so be4 i started to use it. Its hard to explain why IRC can become much more than that without sounding like a weirdo who's afraid to face reality.
IRC can be sort of an outlet, u can kick ppl on IRC in the ass and smile, in real life (to which i from here on will refer to as IRL) u can't…
U can glue ppl to the wall and throw feathers over them, make them look like a chicken..

I can go on and on and annoy u, just try it
and decide for urself whether this semi fantasy world appeals to u..
…The thin line between IRC and real life…
Well, wot can I say? I've crossed it…and no hair on my head regrets it for one second..i will spare u the details (which u, without a doubt, would love to hear..:Þ).
U can create an IRC personality that is not u, but believe me, no one can keep up a fake personality forever..(I tried..)
But that's not wot i wanted to tell u..loosing track of things is also one of the things that u see happening on IRC all the time.
U hear so may things about Internet love and stuff. That always made me laugh, i thought that was soo hideous. Hmm, I am afraid I just revealed a bit abt me here..
U can get involved in serious friendships on IRC, even in relationships.
IRC is fair, ppl judge each other not by the looks, but by wot is being said , how and why things are being said.
On IRC we don't have to be miss World to gain respect, it doesn't matter wot we look like, its the personality that counts here, since thats the only thing that shows on the words that are being typed..am I still making sense here?
Ans well..u always can decide whether u wanna meet some one IRL, no garantuee that it works out whatsoever, but it might.. <NG>

Where to get it...
There are several ways to use IRC, for all
u need a program..
There is mIRC,
PIRCH
(both for Windows), ircii
and cIRCus (for LINUX)
and for Macintosh there is Ircle
Since I use mIRC myself, I wont bother to
inform u abt the other proggies, I dont know that much about them..

Make sure that you download the latest version,
which is at the moment I write this homepage, 5.41
I strongly suggest that u also download the
FAQ that comes with it (called mIRCFAQ37.zip)
When u just once read it before u start to
use mIRC, all the commands and tricks that make mIRC so nice and funny
wont be completely abracadabra when ur online..
Scripts
The mIRC program can be configured to react in special ways to special events on IRC. It's done by typing commands into a special place in the mIRC program, and this is called scripts.
There are a lot of scripts available, when ur really new to this, i think u better stick to the original mIRC program.
Once ur a bit familiar with the mIRC proggie,
u can decide for urself whether u wanna use a script, or (even better)
whether u wanna make a script urself.
In the FAQ u can read a lot more abt scripting.
One script I do recommend tho..its called Split
Shift Three, written by TheJudge.
This script is not containing fancy stuff,
it has caught some of the bugs in mIRC in a very good way and makes the
program easier to use, even for real 'newbies'..

Acronyms
I think by now u must have noticed my weird
way of spelling English..well u aint seen nothing yet!
on IRC almost evrybody uses acronyms in order
to type less text and say the same.
So dont be surprised when u suddenly see some one say 'rotflmao', this is an acronym for 'rolling over the floor laughing my ass off' or 'brb' which means 'be right back'.
There are lots and lots of those acronyms, if u wanna see wot they all mean, check out this site ....
Not all of the acronyms explained there are
used all the time on IRC, find that out for urself...
Funny stuff about IRC
On the Internet u can find tons of computer jokes and since chatting on the net has become so popular, ofcoz u can find hilarious jokes abt IRC too.
